4/5/2013 - Oveson having fun with new roll


Carbon County Clerk Auditor, Seth Oveson has been in office a little over a month after replacing Robert Pero, who was appointed by Governor Herbert to serve on the Utah Tax Commission. Oveson says, ''Things are going pretty good. Im getting my feet wet, and getting use to everything, so far its been fun.''

At the last County Commission meeting, one of the topics that was brought up was the review and possible approval of OHV/ATV routes on County roads. ''It was almost approved. What the county is waiting on is the final approval. To pass an ordinance to make sure everyone knows what they need to have on their equipment, and if they are going to use the trails.'' Oveson says.

The County has suggested approving a road between the middle school and back by the gas plant, connecting into Carbonville Road. ''Underneath the highway to be able to connect both sides of the highway and provide better access.'' Oveson says. Before the county does that they want to make sure an ordinance is in place which should come up in the next meeting on April 17th and should be moved for final approval.

Commission meetings have lately taken a little bit of time to talk about the new Carbon County Courthouse. ''Where that will be built and when, also improvement projects at the airport. Its an exciting time to be here at the County.'' says Oveson.
As far as the new courthouse project, Oveson says ''The project is still in the approval phase and plans are being taken care of. The final set of plans will come from the architect for approval by the commission in the next several weeks.'' Once the plans are completely approved, then the commission will be able to move forward and bid out the project and once it is bid out they will be able to begin construction.

Since Oveson has been in office, they have changed a few things. ''We have looked into making commission minutes available online and updating some things on the website so the community can have a little bit of access.'' Oveson says he is still learning but that its an exciting time to be at the County.
